Welcome to the airport for Germany's capital region with 23 million passengers in 2023.
The airport for Germany's capital region - Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) - opened and began operations in October 2020.
Two terminals are operational:
Terminal 1- main terminal in the centre of the airport
Terminal 2 - north of Terminal 1BER has two runways, one 3,600 m long and a southern runway with a length of 4,000 m. The distance between the runways is 1.9 km so that they can be operated independently.
Berlin is the third largest airport location with around 23 million passengers annually (2023). Until BER opened, two airports - Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schönefeld - served the region of Berlin and Brandenburg. Berlin Tegel closed for all commercial flights on 8 November 2020.
The new airport significantly improves the products and services offered to passengers and airlines. Capacities can grow so that we can offer more capacity for Germany's capital region.
As part of the improvement process BER Runway was introduced in 2022 allowing passengers to book security slots free of charge. In addition, the use of the self-service equipment was increased and BER Traveller started to make biometric travelling possible. For these projects BER won the Airport Innovation Award 2023 by the International Airport Review.
